DNV is the leading classification society for cruise ships, with a 40% share of the global fleet. We have been a key contributor to the industry since its inception, from classing the first ship purpose-built for pleasure cruising, Hamburg-America Lines’ Prinzessin Viktoria Luise, in 1900 to the advent of the modern cruising era with the delivery of Norwegian Caribbean Line’s M/S Sunward in 1965 and Royal Caribbean International’s trend-setting Song of Norway in 1970. We have played a leading role in major industry innovations together with our customers ever since.
Plotting a new course
The future of the industry we believe will be characterized by increased regulatory pressures, greater transparency, an urgent need for new clean technology, increased complexity and industrialization.
To address these challenges, we have developed structured collaboration processes that leverage our expertise both in traditional classification services and specialized advisory projects. Our focus is to contribute to safe, efficient and sustainable operations covering the entire lifecycle of vessels from design innovation to recycling.
Working hand in hand
DNV is committed to creating an enduring positive working atmosphere with clients where all parties are determined to reach shared goals. We do this by exchanging knowledge and developing a common understanding of each challenge and how to resolve them. We believe this kind of collaborative approach reaches higher performance standards faster than a purely transactional relationship.
